I just got off the phone with Organic Valley's Customer Service Department. I inquired as to where the soybeans come from to produce their soymilk. There is a 6 digit number printed on the top of each carton next to the expiration date. This number serves as a code that tells you where your particular carton of soymilk came from. The soybeans that Organic Valley uses come mainly from Iowa and Indiana. The nice man on the phone did not think that OV had any soybean farms in Wisconsin. My particular carton came from Lisbon, Iowa. Lisbon, IA, is approximately 258 miles from Eau Claire, WI!! I think I have found my delicious soymilk match.

Awesome! In addition to having "the most local" soymilk to us, Organic Valley is fully farmer owned and based in LaFarge Wisconsin. Luckily, the best commercial soy milk in the country also happens to be the most local. You also mentioned the best "second" alternative - Eden. Both of these companies I trust for a variety of reasons. Eden foods also uses extensive tracking and "double cerification" to make sure what you are getting is organic, and they are committed to family farms. On the dark side is Silk - which I have also heard frequently sources soybeans they claim are "organic" from China and parts elsewhere - not because they can't find soybeans around here (my god there are plenty of soybeans being grown around here) but because the beans from china are cheaper. Then they can make more money, and pay more lobbyists in Washington to help create even more loopholes in the organic laws. I'm being a bit crass, but the fundamentals are truthful to my knowlege.
Side note: anyone make their own soy milk? I have made rice milk (and it's south-of-the border cousin Horchata), almond milk and oat milk. Haven't tried making soy because of the harder shell on the beans...
